Spring Wellness Week this Week
April 8 - 12
Nipmuc Regional High School’s School Counseling Department will hold our annual Spring Wellness Week this week focused on mental health and wellness.
Today, thanks to funding from Nipmuc’s Active Minds chapter, students listened to a speaker from Minding Your Mind, a nonprofit mental health education foundation whose primary objective is to provide mental health education to adolescents. Through this program, Changing Minds: Stories Over Stigma, students will hear from Wes, a dynamic young adult speaker with lived experience who shared an inspiring personal story about struggle, resilience, and hope. This evidence-based program is aimed at ending the stigma around mental health challenges while encouraging students to seek help for themselves or a friend as early as possible.
Nipmuc's school counselors will continue to be available to any student seeking support after this presentation. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s school counselor with any questions or concerns.
Congratulations!
Nipmuc Girls Who Code Wins National AI4 Financial Good Challenge
Congratulations to Nipmuc GWC members Amelia Cahill, Bridget Klupa, Ella Martin, Ana Kanak, Hannah Cotton, Molly Klupa, Diana Plotkin, and Ashleigh Lupien for winning the Artificial Intelligence '4' Financial Good National GWC challenge with their project "Billy the Buck: Personal Budgeting Assistant". In their words, "Billy the Buck is a helpful friend (and Google chrome extension) who will pop up when you’re on a shopping website, set a timer for you to think about your purchase, budget your spending based on your monthly salary, and guide you to our own presentation for you to learn from him. He will teach about financial literacy, such as how it is impacted by social inequities and how to do 50/30/20 budgeting." GWC staff and corporate partners were impressed with the project, stating “Your project is spectacular! You've identified a very clear pain point (that disproportionately impacts women and people of color) in financial literacy. Your research is spectacular on how to best approach saving (the 50/30/20 framework, goal-setting, the power of compounding, the use of IRAs and Emergency Savings accounts)." Girls, we are very proud of you!
Exciting News for Nipmuc
Nipmuc Earns its Second Innovation Career Pathway Designation
Last week Nipmuc was awarded its second Innovation Career Pathways (ICP) designation by the state which is accompanied by a grant of $75,000. Nipmuc earned their first Innovation Career Pathway designation in 2023 with its Computer Science Pathway. This new ICP will create two business pathways at Nipmuc beginning next year: Marketing and Finance.
Innovation Career Pathways are designed to give students coursework and experience in a specific high-demand industry, such as information technology, engineering, healthcare, life sciences and advanced manufacturing. ICPs are designed to create strong partnerships with employers in order to expose students to career options and help them develop knowledge and skills related to their chosen field of study before they graduate high school.
Congratulations to Mr. Kelly, Mr. Caprarella, Ms. Bennett, and the entire ICP team for all their hard work in making this happen!
