National Honor Society Induction Tomorrow Evening
Term 4 Tardies
- Students need to be in their first block class (not simply in the building) prior to 7:30am.
- Students are given 3 tardies per term without consequences.
- Tardies 4 - 6 will result in after school detentions, loss of parking for the remainder of the term (if applicable), and ineligibility for after school activities on that day.
- Tardies 7+ result in a Saturday detention per tardy and ineligibility for that day's after school activities.
- Term 4 begins on April 6 and runs through the end of the school year.
Although we have not issued consequences for the late arrival to school, we continue to track all students' attendance. You can access this information in PowerSchool.
Food for Thought Tomorrow
Tomorrow we will be hosting our first Food for Thought Lunch since the pandemic. We are pleased to be back having the ability to host these types of events with our students. This student feedback forum provides teachers and administrators with the chance to hear directly from students about what’s working and how we can make the student experience at Nipmuc the best it can be. They usually include 15-18 students, 3 - 4 teachers, and Mr. Clements & Mrs. Moran. In the past years, we’ve been able to meet with hundreds of Nipmuc students in these sessions. There is still some room to join tomorrow's gathering. Sign up using THIS FORM for tomorrow's opportunity or to take part in Lead Learner Workshops or Food for Thought Lunches in the future!
Prom Updates and Ticket Sales
Prom 2022 - FINAL TICKET SALES!
Junior and senior students need to have their class dues paid in full prior to purchasing prom tickets. Out-of-school guests who are under 21 years old are allowed but need to be registered in order to purchase a ticket. If you have any questions about tickets you can email Senior Class Advisor Alycia Beatrice at abeatrice@mursd.org.
After Prom Party
It’s back! The After Prom Party for Nipmuc will be held this year, after two years of absence due to COVID-19. We are looking for volunteers to help on the APP committee. This includes planning, setting up, and helping during the event. Prom is scheduled for May 6 and the APP runs when the students get back to school until 5 am. Decorating begins when the buses leave for the start of prom. If you are not interested in planning but are willing to help on the day of prom, that is welcome as well. Financial donations are also greatly appreciated! Please consider joining us in making this a HUGE success.
The After Prom Party allows the students to have a safe and fun place to go after prom. It typically includes a range of activities. In years past there have been henna artists, inflatables in the gym, cornhole, movies, and some kind of entertainment. We also give away prizes during the night, and larger gifts at the end of the night for those students in attendance.
If you have further questions you can email nipmucapp@mursd.org.
The first meeting of the APP committee will take place this Wednesday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m. in the Gathering Room at Nipmuc.
Donations to the APP can be sent through this link bit.ly/NipmucAPP or by check payable to Nipmuc APP. Checks can be dropped off at the Nipmuc main office or at the committee meeting.
FAST DATE COMING SOON!
Wellness Week is 2 Weeks Away
The Nipmuc School Counseling Center hosts two different Wellness Weeks each year. The purpose of Wellness Week is to spread awareness of wellness practices, promote healthy lifestyles, and learn ways to cope with and decrease stress. Our hope is that spreading awareness of wellness practices will result in healthier minds and bodies for our Nipmuc community.
The Center for Disease Control's Division of Adolescent and School Health provides evidence that shows a strong link between the health of students and academic success. Healthy students are better learners, and successful students create healthy communities in the future!
Wellness Week is an opportunity to relax and have some fun while learning skills to improve individual wellness. The spring Wellness Week is just around the corner! Wellness Week will run the week before April break from April 11-15. The weekend before (April 8th-11th) will be our “Wind-down Weekend,” with no homework assigned, so students can focus on spending time with family/friends and self-care.
Check out the themes for the week below.
Math Acceleration Academy - April Vacation Week
We are excited to announce that the Math Acceleration Program will be back for April vacation. As you may know, MURSD has received a grant to host a Math Acceleration Academy over both February and April vacations. This week-long academy is an academic program designed to accelerate student learning through hands-on, project-based lessons. The April academy is designed to support students in grades 3-10 in advancing their understanding of mathematics concepts learned over the course of the last two years. Our hope is that students will not only get the support they need but will also build confidence around the mathematical skills and concepts that will support their success in the classroom.
Based on a range of data sources as well as recommendations from their current math teachers, students who could benefit from the academy were identified and families were recently contacted. Eligible students must be willing to commit to attending the academy for the entire week (Tuesday, April 19 - Friday, April 22 from 7:30am - 1:15pm each day). The academy will be run by MURSD faculty and staff.
If you believe that your child may be eligible for the academy or are interested in learning more, please contact Amy Gilchrist (agilchrist@mursd.org), math educator and department chair at Nipmuc.
