From Mr. Baker, Principal
Hello Ankeney Families,
February is a busy month at Ankeney Middle School as we are continuing to "Be Kind, Work Hard, and Problem Solve" in the classroom while also beginning preparations for upcoming events this month and in the Spring. We are also gearing up for state testing and preparing students for the 2023-2024 school year. Our 8th graders are also visiting the Greene County Career Center on Friday, February 24th.
During the week of January 30th, registration presentation videos will be shown to students in each grade level to review required courses and elective options for the next school year. If a student is absent, it is recommended they view the appropriate grade level presentation with the link listed below. Early February, students will need to submit course requests and register for classes. All of the presentation links and important deadlines are listed below. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to one of your student's teachers, school counselor or myself or Mr. Shimko.

Voice Messages and Early Dismissals
If you receive a missed call from Ankeney, please take a few moments to check your voicemail. Most times, there is no emergency and someone has left you a message. The office does not know where to direct your call if you call the school back immediately without first checking for a message. To prevent any miscommunication, if you believe your child may contact you from school, please be sure your child understands the importance of leaving a clear and understandable message.
Please write a note for early dismissals and make sure you write the time you want your student in the Main Office along with their first and last name and reason for the early dismissal. This helps our Office Team as we get many notes and e-mails on a daily basis.
Thank you for your help!

Outside Recess
With cold weather here, please make sure your child is prepared to go outside at lunch recess. Our general guideline is that students will go outside when the temperature is at least 20 degrees or warmer with wind chill taken into account. Students are reminded to take what they need to wear outside prior to going to the Cafeteria as they cannot return after eating. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately with coats, hats, gloves, etc.
Scope Magazine Contest Winner
Congratulations to seventh-grader Ivana Chaturvedi! Ivana is one of three nationwide winners in a Scholastic magazine writing contest, where she created a poster that explains why protecting sloths and the places where they live is important. Ivana won a copy of The Elephant Girl. Congratulations on your accomplishment, Ivana!
Chromebook Reminders
All students with any Chromebook issues need to come to the IMC during school hours.
If your child has a broken charger, they need to bring it to the IMC and get a new one. You will not be charged for a broken charger as long as the broken one is turned in and it was not broken by the negligence of the student. If your child is having any problems with their Chromebook not working properly, we will try to troubleshoot the issue. This includes broken screens, frozen screen, no audio, no video, keys stuck, keys not working, broken hinge, etc. If we cannot fix it, we will issue them a new one.
Please have your child charge their Chromebook every night. A Chromebook that is never charged and goes to 0% is much harder to charge. If the red light does not come on and stay on while charging, it IS NOT charging. If this occurs, you must plug it in and out of the port until the light becomes a solid red light. This can take a few minutes or several hours depending on how long it was at 0%. Also, there are two ports that can be used to charge them. Try them both! One side may not work. Trying different outlets in the home may be necessary. Some outlets may be looser than others and will not support the charger plug. It is best to use the school-issued charger that belongs to the Chromebook. Personal chargers may not always work and should not be used with the school Chromebooks. Leaving a Chromebook on a charger will NOT damage the Chromebook. We leave them on chargers here at school 24/7.
