Sandia Vista Elementary
Principal Monthly Newsletter - January
Note from Mr. DeSoto
Hello Sandia Vista Families,
We have had a wonderful first week back. Please keep an eye out for upcoming events and updates. You can access events through the school website at any time. There will be no school on Monday January 16 in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The General Membership PTO meeting will be held on January 19th from 6-7. All are welcome to attend.
January 23rd we will celebrate the 100th day of school. If you and your family would like to get creative, we are encouraging students to dress as if it were the Roaring Twenties. More information and details will be sent out soon.
Sandia Vista staff would like to share some of the happy moments they enjoyed with their families over the winter break. Remember, if you would like to share any family moments you have captured at school events or at home, you may do so by clicking on the link below.

This month our Montessori PreK welcomes a few new students. As we review our classroom guidelines and routines, the students are excited to role model and share what they know about our classroom community. Our PreK students will expand our ongoing studies of world geography and take a closer look at China and Chinese culture as the Lunar New year approaches. In our K/1 classrooms the students are exploring the solar system and taking a closer look at polar habitats and animals. Our lower elementary students are participating in a snow study and learning about the conditions needed for snow to form, the many types of snow, and how it affects animals and humans in various parts of the world. Our upper elementary classrooms are beginning the new year with a graphic novel study, Geometry lab, and a CKLA unit in Geology which includes geography, archeology and ecology. It’s an exciting time of fresh starts and new learning adventures in our Montessori classrooms.
Attendance For Success Policy
Please reference attendance policies and procedures by clicking the button below.
Just to remind:
- There are no excused absences for vacation.
- Calling in a student does not automatically excuse the absence.
- Please be as specific as possible when reporting an absence on the attendance line to ensure the absence is recorded correctly.
Attendance now has a button! It is on the main page in the middle next to the "counselor's corner" button. This is where parents can upload doctor's notes or other excuse notes and it will come directly to the SVE drive.
