Wingate Elementary
Family Newsletter December 2023
Wingate Families-
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family doing well! Cold weather came a little later for us this year and I'm grateful for that. Just a reminder to make sure all students bring a coat with them each day to school. Gloves and hats are great to have also. We do go outside if the temperature and/or windchill are 20 degrees or above so please make sure students are dressed for the weather. They have two recesses outside each day, both for 20 minutes.
The month of December flies by in schools! While we have a few fun activities scheduled this month, we still have a lot of teaching and learning to do. Please be sure to have students at school each day unless they have a fever or are vomiting/having diarrhea. Thanks for helping with this!
We will be having our annual food drive at Wingate this month. The details are below. Please help if you are able. The Mascoutah Food Pantry shared that their shelves are pretty bare this year, the Scouting for Food Drive in the community wasn't as successful as it has been in past years. Thanks for any support you can give!
We wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday season. Thank you for all the support you give to us at Wingate and thanks for sharing your children with us!

Principal
Truancy & Residency Officer-
Mascoutah School District is taking proactive steps to address truancy challenges by introducing a dedicated Truancy & Residency Officer position. Despite our truancy rate being below the state average, we recognize the importance of consistent attendance and aim to support students and families in ensuring punctual and regular school attendance. MSD19 is committed to providing every student, every day, with daily opportunities for academic and personal success.
The Truancy Officer will work closely with each school's Office and Administrative staff, supporting responsibilities such as regular phone calls, home visits, and providing support services to reduce truancy rates and enhance student engagement. Our goal is to address attendance concerns at the root, creating a safe and nurturing environment that fosters a love of learning and personal growth.
This initiative aligns with our commitment to providing high-quality education and support for all students. We anticipate that the Truancy Officer will not only improve attendance but also contribute to a more positive and engaging learning experience for everyone.
MSD19 remains dedicated to collaborating with students, families, and the community to maintain schools as environments where students can flourish, learn, and develop crucial life skills. We are enthusiastic about the positive impact our new Truancy Officer will bring to the district and the opportunities it will create for our students.
