Wingate Elementary
Family Newsletter January 2024
Wingate Families-
A big thank you to our entire school community for the enormous outpouring we saw for our recent food drive! We collected 2116 items for the Mascoutah Food Pantry. When Mr. Reed delivered it all this week, the worker teared up and shared that their shelves were bare and recently they went from feeding 6 families to 26 families. Thank you for helping us to help others in our community! Congratulations to Miss Wombacher's 2nd grade class who collected the most items, 321 items. They enjoyed a pizza party this past Tuesday for their win.
I visited each of our 3rd grade classes on Wednesday and shared a true story about myself as a 3rd grader at Christmas many years ago. If you have a 3rd grader, ask them to tell you my story. I tell this story each year hoping to pass on this valuable lesson that so many of our kiddos need to learn, especially at this time of the year.
I am working today but will take off next week to spend with family. I will be back in the office on January 2nd if you need something. From all of us at Wingate, we wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday season. Thank you for all the support you give to us at Wingate and thanks for sharing your children with us!

STEAM Museum Coming to Wingate-
As one of our assemblies for the year using money that was raised through the Fun Run, we will have Mobile Ed Productions at Wingate with their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) Museum on Friday, January 12th. Each grade level will rotate through the museum and explore the activities for 40 minutes. We do need parent volunteers to help with each station. PTO is creating a signup genius to get volunteers to help on this day. Please be on the look out for this post from PTO and sign up to help if you can. Students will love having the STEAM Museum at Wingate!

After School STEM Class-
Metro East Bricks will be offering an after school LEGO Engineering Class at Wingate later this winter and spring. It is offered to students in grades K-5 and the cost is $85.00 per student. Please see the information below to sign up.
During this 6-week program students will explore hands-on engineering fundamentals as they
build motorized models using LEGO® Bricks, axels, and specialty components! Our specialty kits
include technic bricks, axels, gears, motors and battery packs. The students will experience a
variety of STEM related topics each week that relate to that week’s model. This is a program
just for students at Wingate Elementary School. Each student will make and take home a LEGO®
mini figure at the end of the program too! Join us for a fun after school program building with
LEGO® Bricks!
Registration is limited and will fill fast. This would make for a great Holiday gift this winter too.
