Keeping you informed on important dates and information
Hitting the ground running this new year!
Only nine days into the new year and we are back in full swing here at Nipmuc with a busy few weeks ahead. We will be hosting the Nipmuc Showcase, Financial Literacy Fair and Science Symposium over the next two weeks. We also have several guest speakers visiting, DECA competitions, a full line up of athletics, activities, and drama rehearsals. It is an exciting time at Nipmuc.
We are also approaching the mid-point in the school year with term 2 ending on January 23. We encourage students to check PowerSchool and reach out to their teachers with any questions and/or concerns. It is helpful to click on the grades in PowerSchool for each course to see if any assignments are missing or incomplete. These next two weeks are a great time to get caught up before the term ends and to ensure there is communication between the students and the teachers for anything that is missing.
Join the Journey: Check Out Our Blog Series!
Each week check out NipmucPrincipals.com for a blog series about Nipmuc's work to bring the Portrait of a Learner to life. This week's post highlights the origins of our district's Inspired Learning Days - showcasing the way Nipmuc has explored these active, non-traditional, student-driven, community-supported, and fun learning events.
Go to NipmucPrincipals.com to find out the answer to the question, "What if we reimagined the school day?" and to find other posts in the series. Each week we provide an audio version as well as a print version of the blog post.
The week prior to the holiday break Avery Allcock, a Junior at Nipmuc, attended a gymnastics competition on Paradise Island in the Bahamas with her team as well as teams from all over the United States and other countries. The competition featured all four events, and she competed against many girls who were also competing at her level and age division, and ended up winning first place! You can read more about Avery's journey and what's next for her in the student feature below.

Signs of Suicide Programming - January 30, 2023
Our goals in participating in this program include teaching students:
- that depression is treatable so they are encouraged to seek help
- how to identify serious depression and potential suicide risk in themselves or a friend
- to ACT (Acknowledge, Care and Tell a trusted adult) if concerned about themselves or a friend
- who they can turn to at school for help, if they need it Students will watch an age-appropriate video and participate in a guided discussion about depression, suicide, and what to do if they are concerned about a friend.
Following the video, students will complete a short screening for depression and a response slip indicating whether they would like to talk to an adult about any concerns. We encourage you to visit www.sossignsofsuicide.org/parent for information on warning signs for youth suicide, to access useful resources, and to learn more about the key message all students will learn in class. If you have questions please reach out to your student's school counselor.
