From Mr. Baker, Principal
Hello Ankeney Families,
Happy New Year! We hope you had a restful and fun-filled winter break. We have really enjoyed being back together this week to start off the second half of the school year! The staff and students have already been focusing on our character pillar of the month of January which is Responsibility and The Charger Way tenants: Be Kind, Work Hard, Problem Solve. In an effort to focus on these two initiatives we are asking everyone to think about The Charger WHY - Why is it important to bring the best of yourself to middle school everyday? Why do we need to be kind, work hard, and problem solve every single day? We are excited to focus on this throughout the month to help our students recognize the skills they are learning in middle school will serve them for the rest of their lives. Each day they are learning important life skills such as time management, perseverance, self control, problem solving, resiliency, social skills, and the list goes on!
This time of year also has a lot of planning and deadlines as we begin to plan and prepare for next school year. Later this quarter, our students will begin the process of considering and scheduling courses for the 2023-2024 school year. Our 8th graders will also have the opportunity to meet with counselors from Ferguson Hall to discuss high school courses and will have an opportunity to tour the Greene County Career Center to explore options they may want to take advantage of later on during high school. Be on the lookout for more information about scheduling coming soon.
Beginning next week, we will be administering the Winter MAP assessments on Tuesday, and Thursday (1/10 & 1/12). Please make sure your child brings their charged Chromebook to school every day.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we begin the start of another successful semester. I look forward to our continued partnership with our community and parents in the new year.
Go Chargers!
Sincerely,
Josh Baker
Did You Know??? - Apptegy
As a school, our staff uses many tools to keep parents informed such as e-mail, websites, ProgressBook, etc. Another resource the office and district staff uses is Apptegy. Whenever we need to inform parents about upcoming school events, changes in schedule such as delays or cancellations, or even to notify parents of an absence that has not been called into the office, we utilize the text and/or e-mail feature of Apptegy. It is important that you keep your information current with the office to ensure you are receiving our messages as we send out monthly newsletters this way as well as periodic updates. You can update your information via OneView or contact our Office Staff at AMSHelp@gocreek.org with questions or to update records.
Shine Award
Our Shine Award recipient for the month of December is 8th grader Camden Horseman. Camden is a student who can be trusted to help with anything around the classroom. She also is very respectful to her peers and to her teachers by always staying engaged and listening during class. When she has a question she is not afraid to ask it. She helps others and works well in group scenarios. She is overall a very positive person to have in the classroom. Camden is really a model student and friend. She always comes to class with a smile on her face and encourages all that she comes in contact with. She is very willing to work with literally anyone and is patient with everyone. She is always prepared and demonstrates her best effort 100 % of the time. Congratulations, Camden, on being a student of character!

Voice Messages and Early Dismissals
If you receive a missed call from Ankeney, please take a few moments to check your voicemail. Most times, there is no emergency and someone has left you a message. The office does not know where to direct your call if you call the school back immediately without first checking for a message. To prevent any miscommunication, if you believe your child may contact you from school, please be sure your child understands the importance of leaving a clear and understandable message.
When writing a note for early dismissals, please make sure you write the time you want your student in the Main Office along with their first and last name and reason for the early dismissal. This helps our Office Team as we get many notes and e-mails on a daily basis.
Thank you for your help!

Cookie Walk
Thank you to everyone who took the time to make and donate delicious treats for our staff.
Our families donated 200 dozen cookies, making it so that each staff member could take
home two dozen cookies! What a treat! This could not have been done without our
wonderful families and amazing volunteers! Thank you!!

Outside Recess
With cold weather here, please make sure your child is prepared to go outside at lunch recess. Our general guideline is that students will go outside when the temperature is at least 20 degrees or warmer with wind chill taken into account. Students are reminded to take what they need to wear outside prior to going to the Cafeteria as they cannot return after eating. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately with coats, hats, gloves, etc.
